Fortitude Valley Is Getting A New Music Venue

In Brisbane, when one door closes, another one opens. Following the report of Max Watt’s Brisbane’s closure last week, the people behind such prestigious companies as the Tivoli, the Triffid and Splendour in the Grass are partnering for a new music venue in the city.

Boasting a $40 million dollar development, the live music and entertainment space will be held at 312 Brunswick Street and is set to take Fortitude Valley by storm. Set to hold a capacity of 3300 punters, the venue is aiming to play host to incredible national and international touring acts all year-round. Comparatively, the Tivoli is capped at 1500; while the Triffid can hold 800.

The space—to be located opposite McWhirters—will double as a tourist hub with retail stores, coffee shops, restaurants and bars lining its walls along with its state-of-the-art live music capabilities. It’s set to open in 2019.

The team at Secret Sounds—more specifically John Collins, formally of Powderfinger, and Paul Piticco—are behind this new, innovative measure for Fortitude Valley. Together, they’ve played a massive part in the Brisbane music scene and, with this new live venue, aim to take it to the next level.

We’ve learned a lot since the early days of The Triffid. I guess our hunch about the potential growth of the live music scene back then has paid off in spades… I think that venues created for music by musicians add something extra to the whole experience for both audiences and performers,” says Collins.
