Garagee Reveals Tranquil new single, ‘Firewall’ feat. Jane McArthur

Melbourne-based indie artist Garagee is back with a captivating new single, Firewall, featuring the evocative vocals of Jane McArthur. This track, accompanied by a visually stunning music video, is a preview of Garagee’s upcoming album, Garagee III – the first in his 16-year career to prominently feature vocal performances.

Firewall blends reflective retro indie charm with a soft, ragged atmosphere. Jane McArthur’s emotional singing complements Garagee’s smooth instrumentals, which include laid back drum work, sooty guitar, and calm harmonies. This new era in Garagee’s music follows his recent collaboration with The Church’s Steve Kilbey and showcases a fusion of lush instrumentals with powerful lyrics.

With this album, I called on the likes of Steve Kilbey, Jane McArthur, Lindsay Phillips, and Pink Tights, amongst others, who brought profound lyrical insight and expression, where each track had been written to serve the unique aesthetic and timbre of each singer… The album runs intentionally like an eclectic and personalized mixtape sent to someone you recently had a long and invigorating existential discussion with at a party.” – Garagee.

The video for Firewall showcases striking black-and-white scenes of a couple, enhanced by bold white sketches that emphasise the lyrics and visual elements. This artistic presentation delves into themes of human isolation in a tech-centric world, perfectly complementing McArthur’s deeply reflective lyrics.

Garagee III promises a rich exploration of themes such as technology, media, and self-identity. The album, featuring contributions from notable artists like Lindsay Phillips and Pink Tights, will debut at Mama Chen’s in Footscray on Saturday, August 24. Fans can anticipate an eclectic mix of tracks designed to provoke thought and evoke deep emotions.
