Gorillaz Announce New Album ‘The Mountain’ and Drop First Single ‘The Happy Dictator’

Iconic virtual band Gorillaz have announced their ninth studio album, The Mountain, set for release on 20 March 2026 via their newly launched label KONG. The announcement comes alongside the release of the album’s first single, The Happy Dictator (feat. Sparks).

Produced by Gorillaz, James Ford, Samuel Egglenton, Remi Kabaka Jr., and Bizarrap, The Mountain spans 15 tracks and embodies the band’s trademark collaborative spirit. The record features a star-studded lineup of artists, including Anoushka Shankar, Black Thought, Johnny Marr, IDLES, Yasiin Bey, Trueno, Omar Souleyman, Paul Simonon, Sparks, and many more. Notably, the album also includes the voices of late collaborators such as Bobby Womack, Tony Allen, Dennis Hopper, and Mark E. Smith, creating a project that celebrates both the present and the eternal.

Recorded across London, India, the Middle East, and the US, the album features performances in five languages: Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish, and Yoruba. Visually, Jamie Hewlett brings Gorillaz’s world to life with intricate hand-drawn artwork inspired by the band’s time in India, available as a book and 12×12 print collection.

Alongside the album, Gorillaz have confirmed The Mountain Tour 2026, kicking off in Manchester on 21 March and wrapping with a massive headline show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 20 June 2026.

With The Happy Dictator setting the tone, The Mountain promises to be one of the most ambitious Gorillaz records to date — a sonic journey across borders, cultures, and the meaning of life itself.
