Graves Are A Busy Bunch, Drop Single, Vid, Album News & Sign With New Label

Graves Promo Shot

Wollongong heavy hitters Graves have announced their signing to Melbourne record label Greyscale Records, becoming the second band to join the young label’s roster, while simultaneously announcing their debut album ‘Monster’ and dropping the first single Fear.

Graves have spent the last few years relentlessly touring the country, supporting Australian acts such as Parkway Drive, Thy Art Is Murder and Confession. The band are currently supporting American deathcore crew Suicide Silence on their “Straight Outta Hell” Aussie tour. Graves are a testament to what a band can achieve with hard work and perseverance.

Working on the foundation of their self-released 2013 E.P. ‘Pestilence’, Graves have crafted a dark, brooding and insanely heavy track with Fear. With catchy hardcore influenced riffs, unnerving build ups, and thundering breakdowns, Fear is an example of heavy music done right. The song is also excellent an excellent vehicle for vocalist Rhys Ben to show off his  impressive vocal ability, which he does with gusto.

As well as being a musically heavy track, Fear deals with some intense and heavy personal issues.  Lyrically, the track deals with vocalist Rhys Ben coming to terms with his place in the world. “Fear is about being the black sheep of the family” says Ben. “I never really felt accepted or welcomed at my home, and this song is the culmination of the different emotions and mind frame I experienced during this time.”

The equally unnerving video released alongside the single is a visual representation of these emotions, following Ben as he walks through his ruined home, reflecting on his childhood. The clip culminates in another version of Ben, dressed all in black, beating him and trapping him in the house and his past.

If Fear is anything to go by, Graves debut album ‘Monster’, due out Friday the 21st October, will be monstrously heavy, and sure to cement their place as one of Australia’s heaviest.
