Green Day Drop Rebellious Single “Revolution Radio” Ahead Of New Album
Put your Chuck Taylors on and gel that hair high ‘cause Green Day have thrown us their second single from upcoming album ‘Revolution Radio’. The title-track isn’t short on energy and sounds like it would fit right in with their early noughties collection (that’s a pretty big compliment!).
The punk trio are officially 30-years-old, after forming in 1986 in California. Now with 12 studio albums to their name you’d be hard-pressed to find a person who hasn’t heard of them. While they found underground success in 1994 with their album ‘Dookie’, it was their 2004 album ‘American Idiot’ that spread Green Day’s name across the music world.
Revolution Radio follows on from the outfit’s debut single Bang Bang, a hard-hitting song that has so far seen mixed reviews. Their second single has confirmed they haven’t lost their punk charm just yet. The drumming form Tré Cool firm, the arrangement is wild, and Billie Joe Armstrong’s famous double-vocals effect gives the tune that rebellious sound that make Green Day so damn cool.
Revolution Radio proves they’re still the politically charged group you remember and love. Frontman Armstrong said the song has a strong message behind it, especially the chorus line “We will be seen and not heard”.
“A lot of white people should shut up and listen…they really don’t know what the African-American experience truly is. When you have people getting shot in their cars for no reason and being put in f*cking jail cells and it’s for profit, we have a serious problem, and the first thing you need to do is get educated,” Armstrong said.
The group also revealed another song to feature on the album was inspired by the Paris and Orlando terror attacks, so don’t expect this album to come out quietly! Check out Revolution Radio below and get excited for the album, set to be released on Friday, 7th of October!
