GUEST PLAYLIST: Cloud Control – “Favourite Emerging Artists”
Blue Mountains outfit Cloud Control have slowly risen to become one of Australia’s most beloved indie-rock bands. It’s been a little while between drinks for the quartet, with their 2013 album ‘Dream Cave’ being the latest proper release from the band.
But it seems the 4-piece may soon come hurtling back on the scene, “[We] know we’ve been kinda quiet, but we’re about to start mixing the new record and that’s pretty great so we’re partying up the [NSW] central coast at Proud Mary’s with loads of legends!”. In support of their ‘House of Voodoo’ headlining set at this weekend’s Halloween party at the afore mentioned Proud Mary’s Cloud Control have kindly curated us a Spotify playlist “Favourite Emerging Artists” from around the world!
Plug in, sit back, and let Cloud Control take over your musical tastes for a little while…
Playlist by Cloud Control drummer Ulrich Lenffer
Seekae – Turbine Blue
I’ve always loved these guys, mainly because they always surprise me. Pretty sure I walked around with this on repeat for an entire day which hasn’t really happened since I was a kid, nice one lads!
Fishing – Yuwa
Good atmosphere, excellent vibe. Big fat analogue banger in the most chill way. Also has one of the best clips of 2k16!
Shining Bird – I Can Run
Speaking of that good Aussie atmosphere, here’s another tune from south coast lads shining bird that really plugs in. This one also reminds me of the 80’s Spanish pop lord Miguel Bosé, whom my mum made me listen to throughout my childhood.
HTMLflowers – Stormbloom
I knew about his visual work long before I even knew he made music, so I can’t really explain why it took me so long to connect the dots with this tune. I’m all about a understated chorus that just kinda rolls through, and any track that gives my headphones a tickle is good by me!
Jack River – Palo Alto
Heidi (keyboardist) was like, “Hey you remember Malibu by Hole? I reckon you’re gonna love this one”. I did, and I do! Just some big riffs and big attitude on this one. She just released her EP the other day and it’s real good.
Anohni – Drone Bomb Me
I’ve had mad respect for Anohni over the years and through all musical incarnations. This tune is from the latest album and is a joint Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudmo effort, so production is insane. The best collabs are often the ones that look strangest on paper, so this tune is bang on point!
Action Bronson – Durag vs Headband
Action just can’t really do anything wrong by me!
ilovemakonnen – Back Again
This is basically an extended loop, and kinda sounds like it was recorded in garage band and kinda sounds like it was one take at about 4am…
Jagwar Ma – Colours of Paradise
They just snuck this one in at the end of the new album and I’m into it. Got that understated animal collective euphoria thing going on.
Caribou – Silver
I know it’s been around a while now, but ‘Our Love’ has definitely been one of my go-to albums since it was released. Incredible ballsy production and infinitely smooth vibes.
Soichi Terada – Saturday Love Sunday
Japanese DJ. Al (frontman) said he saw him in Bondi and said it was a super friendly dance vibe which makes sense ‘cause this tune makes me smile!
Catch Cloud Control along with a stack of other at House of Voodoo at Proud Mary’s this coming Saturday!
