Hair and Natural Wool Q & A: MANE

MANE

South Australian songstress MANE, the project of Paige Renee Court, is known for her marrying of infectious pop hooks with sultry blues delivery and driving edgy percussion. We asked the Adelaide-based songstress how she’d approach living with a little more hair and what we can expect from her upcoming debut EP.

If you could a grow beard, what kind of style would you have?

Definitely a Gandalf beard, if you’re going to grow one you may as well commit to the cause and REALLY grow it out…

If you did have a beard would you rather perform as a singer or in a circus?

Probably a singer, because it’s what I do now. But if I had the Gandalf beard it might prove to be difficult when it gets in the way of me strumming my guitar. Maybe we could make a beard bun a thing in that case, it’s probably already a thing though right?

What would you do if you woke up with an actual mane?

Sometimes I already feel like I have one. But if we are talking a full blown lion mane after the initial freak out I’d probably stare at myself in the mirror for a really long time. It’s not every day you wake up with a lion’s mane…

What would be your hairiest spirit animal?

A lion for sure! They’re so majestic and badass!

If you were covered in hair would you shave, wax, or go au natural everywhere?

I’d like to say I’d go au natural, but to be honest I would probably wax it off. My body doesn’t acclimatise very well, especially in summer – it would be way too hot for me!

If you could inhabit any place in the world where would you go?

I haven’t really thought about this before but I think some kind of bird in South America would be sweet. It’s pretty damn beautiful over there and as a bird for the most part you have the freedom to explore it.

Which male celebrity has the best facial hair?

Well I guess Hemsworths aside, I think Jared Leto’s facial hair is pretty dreamy accompanied by his luscious locks!

For the uninitiated, how would you describe MANE’s sound and live shows?

It’s definitely indie-pop with some blues vibes, when I’m playing with the band we try to recreate the full production sound and have fun!

We’re loving your single Bitter, what was the inspiration behind the song?

Bitter was inspired by a very manipulative person who was once close to a family member of mine. Probably a little too nice given what I know now…

Lastly, what are three things people should know about your upcoming debut EP ‘House of Horror’?

It’s a little sad but a little groovy and a lot of hard work and emotion went in to it. It’s released June 24 and we are touring in July with it!
