Here’s The Winners Of The 2016 National Live Music Awards

Aus music month, November 2016, has been a champion month for Australian music. Following on from the 2016 ARIAs, which awarded plenty of pointy accolades to Flume, Troye Sivan, and Violent Soho, the inaugural National Live Music Awards has highlighted the 2016 accomplishments of smaller artists and crucial local players in the industry.

Taking place simultaneously in eight events across our sunbaked nation, the awards night recognised a multitude of bands, artists, venues, events, and those in attendance were treated to performances by L-Fresh The Lion, Totally Unicorn, BANFF, KLP, Jeremy Neale, and more. At the Brisbane event, members of The John Steel Singers and Major Leagues performed three of Fergus Miller’s songs in tribute to the late muso who tragically passed away last month.

The big winners of the night included rising neo-RnB songstress Ngaiire, who won three crystal trophies, and Violent Soho with two awards. Camp Cope took out The Heatseeker Award, which recognises artists who’ve exploded into the scene, and Ball Park Music took home the People’s Choice Award for Live Act.

Director of the National Live Music Awards Larry Heath said, “[in] a week of celebration and recognition of Australia’s incredible music talent that is ARIA week, we were honoured and humbled to be have live music as part of the conversation in a way never before seen in this country”.

“Artists like Ngaiire are the beating heart of the contemporary live music scene in Australia and to be able to recognise her for that, alongside dozens of other winners around the country, is what these awards were designed for.

“I look forward to seeing the event evolve and develop in the years to come and continuing to spread our love for live music around the country, solidifying our place both locally and internationally one of the healthiest live music scenes in the world,” says Heath.
