Home Alone Q & A: Sans Parents
Charming indie rockers Sans Parents have once again got our feet tapping with a new single from their upcoming EP, and just a few weeks out from their mini-tour! We asked the Brisbane quartet how they’d cope dealing with the responsibility of having the house to themselves and the inspiration behind their new single Dead End.
Would you freak out or would you be excited if your parents left you home alone?
What is not to love about being left home alone?! Rewind back to me being a kid and it would just be horror movies, bad food, and lounge room forts 24/7!
What would be the first thing you would do if you were home alone?
If I was left home alone as an adult I would crank my guilty pleasures playlist that would include the likes of Jeremy Jordan, Boyz II Men, and Ace of Bass.
You overhear that your house will be robbed tonight, what kind of trap do you set up to prepare?
There’s a heck of a lot of stairs where I live currently, so I’d probably oil them up, grab a beer, and watch the hilarity unfold.
Who’s already got booby-trapping experience and who would be most useless in a home alone situation?
Alex is good with gadgets so maybe he could whip up something that might inflict pain. I would suck as I’d spend the whole time overanalysing the situation.
You’ve got one of your parent’s credit cards, who’s most likely to book a night at the most expensive hotel in New York?
I’d say Alex. He’d be the spendthrift in our relationship and I would definitely be the cheapskate.
What else would you use the credit card for during your escapades in New York?
Just lots of good food and alcohol, leaving behind a trail of destruction!
Someone has broken into your neighbour’s house, what do you do?
If it’s my neighbour across the road I’d probably laugh because he doesn’t let me park outside his house. It’s a footpath!
Flip the cards, how would you go about as robbers defeating Kevin and robbing the house?
I think something to lure him out of the house…maybe Harry driving an ice-cream truck with the out of tune melody or something like whilst Marv slips inside…and yeah, the rest is history. Outsmarted you Kevin! But I guess that doesn’t solve the problem of all the booby traps we forgot about. This is all getting a bit dark now though.
For the uninitiated, how do you describe Sans Parents’ sound and live shows?
I would say we have a power-poppy indie-rock kind of vibe, but I’m very bad at describing sound. We’re definitely a little louder and rockier live than on record.
We’re loving your new single Dead End, what is the inspiration or story behind the song?
Oh thank you, that’s very kind! Dead End I think is quite a bittersweet song. It’s about that suffocating feeling of being cornered and the realisation that you might be screwed, but on the plus side you always have the option to quit. We’re all told repeatedly to never give up but quitting things can be amazing!
Lastly, what are three things people should know about Sans Parents?
We are in fact with parents, we have our debut EP out this month and we’re on tour in September!
