Hotel Mira Unveils Emotional Odyssey in Latest Album ‘I Am Not Myself,’

Just weeks after making waves at the inaugural SXSW Sydney, the Canadian quartet Hotel Mira is back in the spotlight with the highly anticipated release of their latest album, I Am Not Myself. The album showcases the band’s evolution and musical prowess, delivering a compelling mix of soulful melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.

During Hotel Mira’s ascent to greater prominence, lead vocalist Charlie Kerr was amid a personal metamorphosis. The creative energy for I Am Not Myself surged within Kerr during his travels between Vancouver and his newly embraced residence in Los Angeles. The band embarked on the recording journey across various studios throughout British Columbia in Canada. Collaborating with an illustrious lineup of producers, including Adam Kasper (known for his work with Nirvana and Foo Fighters), Ryan Worsley (Fake Shark), Steve Bays (Fur Trade, Hot Hot Heat), Parker Bossley (Fur Trade), Louise Burns, James Younger, and more, the album took shape as a testament to the band’s diverse musical influences and Kerr’s introspective lyrical narrative.

Acknowledging the impact of his apprehensions about the relocation, Kerr confesses that these anxieties found their way into the fabric of his lyrics. However, as he delved deeper into the creative process, he discovered that ‘I Am Not Myself’ evolved into a poignant amalgamation of autobiographical elements and tragi-comic character depictions, echoing a profound exploration of self-loss. The theme of ‘identity’ emerged as the unifying thread that intricately weaves through all 12 album tracks, offering listeners a compelling narrative that navigates the complex terrain of personal transformation and the search for one’s true self.

“I think that there is value to expressing unsavoury things about oneself, and peeling away shame. If this music has a purpose, I think it’s to show people how engulfed by shame we are, and how universal that is to the human experience. By pinpointing my own, hopefully people are more forgiving of theirs.”CHARLIE KERR, HOTEL MIRA.

In an exclusive gesture to their devoted fans in Australia, Hotel Mira extends a musical offering with an exclusive bonus track titled Waste Away. This poignant composition serves as a heartfelt tribute to those who have endured the harrowing reality of domestic abuse. Delving into a subject matter that resonates intimately with numerous individuals, including members of the band, Waste Away brings to light the pervasive impact of domestic abuse, shedding light on a narrative that demands empathy and understanding.

‘Waste Away’ tells the story of Domestic abuse. The tendency to Blame oneself. The confusion and backward way we justify abusive behaviour. The way things can escalate slowly over time in a way that we don’t recognise until it’s too late. And of course trying to gather the courage to leave a partner and the very real threat of violence if you do. It is a love letter to the courage and resilience of survivors. Myself and close friends included.” – HOTEL MIRA.

In the evocative notes of ‘I Am Not Myself,’ Hotel Mira not only delivers a resonant journey through the intricacies of personal transformation but also leaves an indelible mark, reminding us that the quest for self-discovery is a universal odyssey, beautifully scored in their melodic tapestry.

Hotel Mira continues to captivate audiences with their unique sound, cementing their status as a rising force in the music scene. I Am Not Myself is available now everywhere.
