Interview: Sketch and Tommy Shade from Bombs Away

bombs-away-2016

DJ/producer duo Bombs Away are making headlines once again with the recent release of their new single Sneak Out! The Gold Coast locals are responsible for some of the biggest bangers of all time including Big Booty B*tches and Party Bass and have been spending their days bringing life to parties all over the globe, including sets at Future Music Festival, Steresonic, and Creamfields Festival, as well as some pretty big international stages. The sibling duo have just embarked on their 2016 world tour and have dropped their fresh new summer track Sneak Out. We caught up with brothers Sketch and Tommy Shade ahead of their world tour!

Firstly, we just wanted to congratulate you guys on the release of your new single Sneak Out! We love how it gives a tropical twist to your signature sound!

Thanks! We felt that time is coming up so we thought we’d capture that vibe in time for summer!

The music video for Sneak Out also has some killer retro vibes!

Yeah, we loved the ol’ skool retro bikes! We’re actually trying to get our hands on a vintage Ferrari for out next music video!

You guys must be super excited about your world tour! Where are you guys most looking forward to performing?

America is going to be good but we perform there a fair bit. We’ve never done Ireland before and that’s our heritage so we’re excited to head over there and perform, and check out some castles while we’re there!

Apart from your new single, what is your favourite banger to play on tour?

The ones we get the most requests for are Big Booty Bitches and Supersoaker but we always try and mix it up a bit. We’re actually loving the A-Trak remix of Where’s Your Head At at the moment.

Being brothers you guys are obviously really close! Do you ever get on each other’s nerves creating so much music together?

Not too much! We live together so we’re together 24/7. We actually just got a ping pong table for the house so we’re in the middle of a ping pong tournament at the moment. (Sketch:) Tommy’s winning at the moment so I’ve got to pick up my game!

You guys have had huge success on your previous tours, both in Australia and overseas, what’s your favourite on tour memory so far?

When Creamfields, Future Music Festival, and Stereosonic were around those moments were always some of the best, but in general, we just like going to new places! We actually really love the regional shows we do around Australia, they always get really wild! We’re always on the road with friends so it’s just like one big party the whole time!

How do you guys usually prepare for a performance? Any pre-gig rituals?

We usually just smash a few drinks and do some vocal warm ups. We’ve got to get limbered up before we head on stage so we jump around a lot to get amped up!

Finally, Sketch I heard you love to work on electric bikes in your spare time? Do you ever get time to take your bikes out for a joyride?

Definitely! Living on the Gold Coast, we live really close to some great bike tracks so it’s good to get out there and focus on something that lets you refresh from working all the time, it’s good fun!
