Interview: Tim Cumming from Morning TV

Morning TV

Sydney newcomers Morning TV are riding high on the release of their debut EP ‘Golden’, a superb collection of reverb-drenched spacey rock primed and ready for your next roadtrip. We asked the band’s guitarist Tim Cumming how they’re feeling post EP release and what morning TV show they can’t get enough of!

First of all, congrats on the release of your debut EP ‘Golden’! How do you feel about everyone finally getting to hear it?

Thanks so much! It’s been extremely exciting for us to finally be releasing the EP, we’ve worked really hard on it and its something that we’re very proud of, so to be sharing it with the world is really cool!

The lead single Golden is an absolute cracker of a track, what influences were you drawing from when you were writing the song?

Brit and I wrote the song about two years ago and its heavily inspired by nature and just day to day life. Brit is from the South Coast and I’m from the Blue Mountains so for us bringing the natural elements of life into our art is very important to us.

What made Golden stand out for you guys of other singles on the EP?

I think that Golden is a song that truly represents the band and I think it’s probably the track that we’re most proud of as well, so when it came to naming the EP it was our first choice.

You guys draw a lot of inspiration from the ocean and your natural surroundings, do you guys have any particular place or spot you go to write?

Brit and I write separately and it normally just in our houses. I like to write in the late afternoon, when the natural golden light is shining through my room, I think it inspires the way I write a lot.

For people who have never heard of Morning TV before, how would you describe your sound and live shows?

It’s pretty reverb drenched and spacey, which we really like. We like to work pretty hard on our our live shows and our tones.

If you guys could work with one band right now, who would it be?

We work with our good friend Tim Fitz (from Middle Kids) and he’s pretty much our dream guy haha. We’ve known him for a long time and it’s really cool to be working with someone that you musically really admire.

Do you guys have any upcoming tour plans? If so, what can fans expect when you bring your songs to the live performances?

We’re playing Volumes Festival on Saturday the 27th of August and Sad Grrrls Festival on the 8th of October and some other special treats in the pipeline that we’re really excited about.

Lastly, what’s your favourite morning TV show/program?

The Today Show, because Karl…
