Interview: TUSHAR Chats About His New Single, ‘Bloodshot Eyes’

Tarndanya/Adelaide-based indie-pop artist TUSHAR has shared his feel-good new single ‘Bloodshot Eyes‘ – produced by long-time collaborator Benny Tamblyn (MANE) and mastered by Mario Späte(Meg WashingtonTkay MaizdaElsy Wameyo). We caught up with TUSHAR to dig deeper into the new single and more.

Congratulations on your latest release! What are your plans to celebrate?

Hey guys! Thank you so much, I’m so happy that it’s out in the world! I hope that the weather will be good so that I can catch up with the special people that helped me make this all happen. Head to the beach, have a few drinks, go for a swim and watch that beautiful sunset! What a dream.

What is the story behind the track?

I walked into a session with my producer/friend, Benny Tamblyn. Before we started writing, he told me about an experience he had over the weekend with an aggressive person. We dove into the story, and he had met this guy at a party for the first time. What seemed like an okay guy, quickly turned into some hyper masculine person who was just looking for a fight. Benny said to me that he just didn’t want to “talk to him anymore” but didn’t know how to get away from him. Awkward moments at parties turned into the fuel we needed to write this song.

How was the track recorded and produced?

The track was recorded and produced by Benny Tamblyn. Every Monday we catch up for songwriting sessions and record everything in his bedroom. We wrote and recorded this song within six hours which is probably the quickest track we’ve completed so far.

What are some tips and tricks you can share with readers who want to set up and record in their own bedroom studio?

Have a laptop and interface that is up to date and won’t give you any technical difficulties. Also, this is my own opinion, but I think having a spot where you get some sunlight coming through makes everything that much better in a studio. I’m not the biggest fan of studios with zero natural lighting.

Compared to your last release being your debut EP, what has developed in your sound since then?

I’m starting to add more synths into my tracks, which I am loving. Benny and I are also working on tracks that will hopefully get the crowd moving a little more. I can’t wait to put out my newer content! Stay tuned.

What are your plans to finish off the year?

In November, I’ll be supporting MANE on her national tour around Melbourne, Sydney, and Wollongong. After the tour is over, I’ll be heading back to Adelaide to plan my next single. I’m hoping to kick things off with a fresh new track in Jan/Feb 2024.
