James Vincent McMorrow has released the music video for his latest single Rising Water, taken from his forthcoming third album ‘We Move’ which is set to be released in just a few weeks.

Produced by Drake’s producer mate Ninteen85, Rising Water sees McMorrow combine his quirky synthesisers with icy vocals. The danceable track reflects his hip hop influences while also laying the perfect foundation for the layers of his graceful falsetto, which he executes with a skyscraper-sized sense of relief.

Basically the track sees him striving to hit some long-held musical fantasies. Indeed, McMorrow says “I grew up wanting to write songs like Neil Young but produce them like The Neptunes”.

Rising Water epitomises this concept to the tee. The music video clearly takes inspiration from Rising Water and its emotional themes, reflecting on the absurdity, beauty, comedy, and tragedy of life. The video focuses on the lives of women in a small fishing town coping with the grief of their partners being lost at sea.

Using a combination of sweeping and devoted cinematography along with intimately choreographed dancing, the music video is a simultaneously beautiful and melancholy visual complement to McMorrow’s stellar single.

Rising Water is just the first taste of what we can anticipate from his upcoming album ‘We Move’, set for release on the 2nd of September, which is expected to be McMorrow’s most ambitious, sweeping, and generous record to date.
