Japanese Breakfast Announces Fourth Album ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)’ and Shares New Single, ‘Orlando in Love’

Japanese Breakfast has unveiled their highly anticipated fourth album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), set for release on March 21, 2025. Accompanying the announcement is the lead single, Orlando in Love, offering a glimpse into the album’s introspective and gothic-inspired themes.

Marking a departure from the exuberance of their GRAMMY-nominated album Jubilee, Michelle Zauner and her band enter darker emotional territory with this release. Produced by Grammy Award-winning Blake Mills and recorded at the iconic Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, the album explores the tension between desire and its consequences, drawing inspiration from European Romanticism and Zauner’s reflective journey into artistic maturity.

The single Orlando in Love is a lyrical and sonic journey, weaving classical references into its narrative. Its protagonist, a poetic wanderer, succumbs to the haunting call of a siren—a metaphor for the allure and peril of unchecked ambition.

With its intricate guitar arrangements and lush soundscapes, the album promises to be a contemplative, emotionally rich addition to Japanese Breakfast’s discography. Fans can stream Orlando in Love now and anticipate a bold, artistic evolution upon the album’s full release.
