Jasmine Matthews Shares 5 Movies That Inspired Her Sound

Alt-pop sensation Jasmine Matthews has unveiled her latest single, Inamorata, a track that oozes with moody vibes and showcases her knack for crafting infectious melodies. This song delves into the allure of feminine mystique, blending layered harmonies with a mix of stripped back beats, moody synths, and glistening keys to create a rich, immersive soundscape.

Inamorata explores the idea of becoming someone’s idealized lover, even when they’re already taken—a theme that adds a touch of intrigue to the track. Matthews’ relatable lyrics and exploration of desire, fantasy, and self-centeredness make this song a standout amongst her impressive catalogue.

With its captivating production and introspective lyrics, Inamorata is set to resonate with listeners who appreciate a mix of emotional depth and catchy hooks, further cementing Jasmine Matthews as an artist to watch.

To celebrate the release and to get to know Jasmine further, today she has shared with us 5 movies that have helped inspired her sound.

Past Lives (2023)

One of the most emotionally charged movies I’ve ever seen, I truly resonate with the idea of ‘Inyeon’, and how this movie tells the story of that Korean philosophy. The amount of heartbreak and sincerity captured in this movie is for sure an inspiration to what I aim to achieve as an artist.

Pearl (2022)

An iconic character. Goth’s performance is undeniably exceptional: her every line and movement was captivating. I know a few artists (myself included) that love Pearl’s (and Maxxxine’s) unshakable commitment to becoming a star, even if she is a psychotic, murderous one.

Malcom and Marie (2021)

I love how gorgeously shot this film is, the whole aesthetic for me really contrasts with the intensity of the relationship between the two leads. An exploration of fragility, passion, and insecurity, watching this made me feel so much and I definitely am inspired to create in a way that makes my audience feel a lot too.

Little Women (2019)

The depth and complexity of womanhood, a beautiful adaptation of a classic that really resonates. Exploring the human spectrum of emotion is something I really value and try to showcase through my music. Watching this also reminds me that I’ll chase my dreams and be content with that no matter what!

Black Swan (2010)

Being consumed by her relentless pursuit of perfection is relatable, but also serves as a reminder that you can easily be overwhelmed by ambition. I love psychological thrillers, but this movie is one of my favourites because of how much I adore Tchaikovsky and Swan Lake!
