The Jezabels Bring A Sultry Side To STIFI For Like A Version

There have been some big names thrown around in the triple j studios this morning, with The Jezabels covering Sticky Fingers’ track If You Go for Like A Version. Given STIFI’s cult following in the Australian music scene, it was a brave choice by the Sydney 4-piece, but they pulled it off.

The Jezabels took a soft and sultry approach to If You Go, allowing the lyrics to flow more thoughtfully than in the energetic original. Leading lady Hayley Mary’s captivating cool and impressive vocal range steal the show in the cover, complemented by drummer Nik Kaloper’s spacey synthesiser melody.

It’s undoubtedly a different approach to If You Go, and many STIFI fans might argue the cover doesn’t stand up to the original. The original is an immersive, psychedelic musical experience from the beginning, designed to get you grooving, whereas the Jezabels’ version is all about observing and feeling.
