Joan & The Giants Unveil Heartfelt New Single ‘Still Breathing’ Ahead of SXSW Debut

Perth indie-rock outfit Joan & The Giants are kicking off 2025 with an emotional new single, Still Breathing. This introspective track arrives just in time for the band’s international debut at SXSW in Austin, Texas this March, marking a major milestone in their career.

Following a standout year in 2024—winning Best Rock Song and placing Runner-Up for Song of the Year at the WA Song of the Year Awards, sharing the stage with P!NK and Tones and I at Optus Stadium, and touring Australia’s east coast—the band is now gearing up for an even bigger year ahead.

Still Breathing captures a deeply personal moment for frontwoman Grace Newton-Wordsworth, reflecting on the end of her nine-year relationship with longtime partner and bandmate Aaron Birch.

“The lyrics really speak about an inner war, trying to fight for the people you once were but knowing you have to let it all go – “But some things are best kept in the past, and I know we weren’t built to last”. – Grace Newton-Worsworth.

Born from an impromptu jam session, the track blends ethereal melodies with driving indie-rock energy, offering listeners an intimate glimpse into the emotional conflict of moving on.

With raw lyrics and haunting instrumentals, Still Breathing solidifies Joan & The Giants as a band as one of Australia’s premiere bands shifting into the next phase of their career.
