Joey Sachi and AKINAT Share Inspiration Behind Collab Single, ‘7 Seconds’

Tokyo-via-Sydney singer/songwriter Joey Sachi has teamed up with producer AKINAT on her latest single ‘7 Seconds’; a euphoric electronic-pop track that was inspired by the life story of classical musician Clive Wearing.

Born and raised in Sydney, Joey Sachi is currently living and working in Tokyo – a move that has helped her flourish creatively through work with some amazing artists and producers in the Japanese capital. On ‘7 Seconds’ Sachi has teamed up with producer AKINAT, and the result is one her strongest releases to date – with a crisp, uplifting instrumental that complements Sachi’s soaring vocals perfectly.

To celebrate, the pair have shared a list of tracks that inspired the sounds found on ‘7 Seconds’!

Dreams – Fleetwood Mac
The iconic toplines of Stevie Nicks—her writing is truly unparalleled. This song was a major influence when we were writing and producing ‘7 Seconds.’ I’m really curious to see if listeners can hear the connection now that they know! We hoped the minimal production, catchy topline, and driving beat all come together to create a similar vibe.

Want You In My Soul – Stee Downes, Lovebirds
Creating ‘7 Seconds’ with this as a reference in mind was an extremely cathartic experience for me. As I’ve mentioned before it served as the soundtrack to the first time I ever fell in love, so crafting a song from scratch with it in mind as a reference was incredibly special for me as an artist. I wonder if you can hear the subtle nods throughout our track, most obviously the 4 on the floor driving the energy as soon as the beat enters.

Made To Stray – Mount Kimbie
I’m always in awe of Mount Kimbie’s production. The simplistic looped vocal that continues to build energy throughout the song was the inspiration here! In ‘7 Seconds’ we drew on this approach working hard to ensure the layers/harmonies varied everytime the lead re-entered so it felt fresh over and over again.

Burns – George Fitzgerald
Ah, I absolutely love everything this man creates! His production is always rich with emotion, featuring lush layers and pads. The story behind ‘7 Seconds’ is deeply emotional, and we kept that in mind throughout the process, ensuring that, even as an electronic track, it resonated deeply with people’s shared experiences.

On & On – Armin van Buuren
This track is electric! I’ve always admired how the vocal is so simple and yet the listener never loses interest. In fact, the opposite! It continues to be reinvented

Everything I wanted – Billie Eilish
This reference is very specific, there is a moment in the production where they use a low pass filter to give the illusion Billie is recording underwater for the lyric ‘head was under water.’ We did a similar thing in 7 Seconds distorting and bending down the vocal on ‘depth!’

Time – Pachanga Boys
Listeners might find it interesting to know that the first iteration of ‘7 Seconds’ was a longform track closer to 8 minutes! Similarly, ‘Time’ evolves over a much longer 15 minutes—I will never forget the first time I fell in love with that track!

Halcyon and On and On – Orbital
One of the GOATs!A soundtrack to many pivotal life moments. Initially, we aimed to create a song with a delayed first drop like ‘Halcyon…!’ I still think we could have teased it out a bit longer—maybe it’s time for a ‘7 Seconds 2.0!’ What do you think?
