Junction Arts Festival Expands to Two Weekends for Spectacular 15th Anniversary in Launceston

Launceston’s cultural crown jewel, Junction Arts Festival, returns bigger and bolder in 2025 to celebrate its 15th anniversary, expanding for the first time across two action-packed weekends, from 12–21 September. Proudly supported by Events Tasmania, the beloved springtime festival will bring the city to life with a rich program of music, performance, contemporary art, and immersive experiences, honouring its legacy while looking to the future.

This milestone edition will unfold in two distinct parts: the first weekend (12–14 September) will honour 15 years of Junction, with special anniversary events, storytelling, and community gatherings. The second weekend (19–21 September) delivers the festival’s signature program, featuring cutting-edge performances, live music, and bold installations lighting up the city into the night.

In a major coup, Junction 2025 will present the Tasmanian premiere of “Airship Orchestra”, a large-scale, interactive installation by internationally acclaimed art-tech studio ENESS. Featuring 16 towering inflatable figures across 500 square metres, this dazzling experience blends sound, light, sculpture, and storytelling, inviting festival goers to engage in joyful connection and playful wonder.

Backed by $1.755 million in multi-year funding from Events Tasmania and additional support to expand the 2025 and 2026 programs, Junction continues to grow as a pillar of regional tourism and economic development. The festival also proudly received a Bronze award in the Festivals & Events category at the 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards— a testament to its national impact.

“Junction exists because our community believes in the power of contemporary arts,” says Junction Chair Rebecca Birrell. It is a significant achievement to reach 15 years and to celebrate this milestone we have a very special expanded festival planned for September, held over two distinct weekends that will both honor the journey and look to the future.

For locals and visitors alike, Junction Arts Festival 2025 promises an unforgettable, transformative experience at the heart of Launceston.
