Karnivool Announce New Album ‘In Verses’ and Drop Powerful New Single ‘Aozora’
Australian progressive metal icons Karnivool have finally ended their 12-year wait between records with the announcement of their long-anticipated new album, In Verses, set for release on February 6.
To mark the occasion, Karnivool have unveiled their brand-new single, Aozora. Already a fan favourite at live shows, the track takes its name from the Japanese word for “blue sky” and dives deep into themes of freedom, escape, and human complexity.

Vocalist Ian Kenny explains:
“The whole theme for that song is escaping, or waiting to escape,” offers vocalist Ian Kenny. “Trying to find a way to escape yourself. The idea of finding freedom in the blue. Trying to find freedom amongst the complications of just being human. We’re so weird, you know? Trying to understand that at different times along the road, sometimes you end up with more questions than answers.”
In Verses was shaped over the past decade in the band’s Perth studio alongside longtime collaborator Forrester Savell, reflecting years of experimentation and life experiences. The 10-track record explores frustration, catharsis, and rediscovery of identity, making it both a reintroduction for long-time fans and an entry point for newcomers.
Since forming over 20 years ago, Karnivool have become one of Australia’s most influential prog-metal bands, with platinum-certified albums Themata, Sound Awake, and the ARIA #1 Asymmetry. With In Verses, Karnivool reaffirm their global status as pioneers of progressive heavy music.
