Kimbra Gets Funky In Latest Single “Sweet Relief”

After teasing fans with photos from a recording studio last week, New Zealand songstress Kimbra has finally delivered her latest single Sweet Relief, her first release since her celebrated 2011 debut ‘Vows’. The new track channels an 80s Prince vibe, culminating in a sound completely different to that of her 2014 release ‘The Golden Echo’.

Sweet Relief features some funky backing synthesisers and thick bass riffs that sit comfortably with super clean production work. Kimbra’s vocal takes show serious performance versatility, fitting between the rise and fall of piercing synth tones.

Complete with smatterings of sneaky guitar riffs, Sweet Relief is a musical representation of Kimbra taking her music in a new direction. Needless to say, it’s pretty left-field of her massive feature on Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know back in 2012.

It’s unclear whether this is a standalone release or part of an album Kimbra recorded in LA last year.  However, there is reason to expect a massive collab with the likes of Skrillex, Miguel and Thundercat thanks to some recent sneaky Instagram posts, so keep an ear out!
