feminist week

The 2016 Listen Conference keeps growing with the announcement of three nights of live music as part of the annual Feminist Futures event. Several of Melbourne’s finest will bring their woman’s touch across a broad spectrum of scenes and genres!

The conference is a unique platform to engage in discussions and performances relating to gender, feminism, writing and creativity. It allows visitors to reflect on new ways to promote diversity and creativity, and lets them to dive headfirst into Melbourne’s world-renowned music community.

On Friday night the line-up will feature the punk vibes of legends Ouch My Face, The Pink Tiles, Wet Lips, Hi-Tec Emotions and Chrystal Myth. Saturday will take it up another notch to the electronic dynamos Wahe, Bahdoesa, Netti, and DJ’s Sovereign Trax and Brooke Powers. Whist thankfully, the chill vibes of the Sunday sesh will be the perfect place to nurse that hangover. The night will feature acoustics, poetry and introspective music-making with key note speaker Alok Vaid-Menon and Dawn Iris, as well as performances by local favourites Astrid, Callan and Sarah Mary Chadwick.

This event will also tackle a range of issues including an artists’ ongoing relationship with music making, the pros and cons of ‘call out culture’, race and sexism in music, and gender binaries in the arts.

Admissions for the live showcase is only $5 for conference goers, and $15 for everyone else! The live events will span across Bella Union for Saturday and Sunday, and across the road at The Curtin for the Friday night opening party.
