Maids Big On “Girl Power”, Announce Tour

Maids

Newcastle’s quirky power-pop outfit Maids have just released a brand new single and announced an east coast tour to celebrate. The 4-piece have been making waves in recent times, opening for acts like DZ Deathrays and British India. With a successful EP and a string of singles under their belt, they’re proving to be an act to keep an eye on.

The single titled Girl Power is a tongue-in-cheek song regarding the issue of misogyny in pop culture. At just a little over three minutes long, the song is a quick, boppy number with a chorus that screams being turned up at a bar: “No way, tonight isn’t your night. Go away, I gotta be somewhere”.

Maids’ drummer and lead vocalist Sean Cook stated the song is about a woman rejecting a man harassing her at a nightclub. “Girls are often sexually objectified, particularly in hip-hop, and I wanted to poke fun at the sleazy nature of a lot of men,” said Cook.
