Marcus Makes Your Breakfast with New Single “Toast”
It’s the meal that is easily forgotten and missed when you’ve “accidently” slept in and have to rush out the door: Breakfast. Despite being one of the most important meals of the day, it’s not easy to get when your rushing but if you’ve missed out today Melbourne-based rapper Marcus has brought you a simply yet tasty breakfast with his latest single Toast.
The song is the musical creation of Marcus and Basquiat JR, the producer behind Joey Bada$$ 2015’s hit Christ Conscious. The two connected through Twitter over their mutual respect for each other’s music to create the catchy and enticing single.
Toast plays an ode to the rapper himself, the success he’s work towards and, his crew Rawdivercity, which is made of fellow respectable artists including Baro, Charlie Threads, Nasty Mars & The Martions.
The single showcases Marcus’ confidence and comfortably with his talent as he effortlessly raps the lyrics with incredible word play and metaphors. “Got the squad with me need more doors / hotel’s with more floors / ring for the city like it’s Mordor / If these tracks were bodies, we’d be warlords”.
The lyrics mixed with the quirky backdrop of strange twangs works perfectly for Marcus with a plethora of thumping drum beats and piano chords. With the light touch of Melbourne based electro-pop artist Squidgenini’s stunning vocals, the track is brought together into an upbeat rhythm of jumps and starts.
This artist is someone to definitely keep an eye on as he his second mixtape, the follow up to his 2015 debut mixtape ‘Pizza for Breakfast. Cereal at 3am’, will feature more acclaimed collaborations with various artists and an upcoming tour with his new live band later this year!
