Matt Corby Returns With Emotional New Single ‘Long and Short’ + Joins Teddy Swims’ National Tour

Australian singer-songwriter Matt Corby has returned with his powerful new single ‘Long and Short’. The track marks Corby’s first new music since his acclaimed 2023 album Everything’s Fine.

Written with activist and songwriter Shungudzo, ‘Long and Short’ is an intimate reflection on grief, acceptance, and the journey beyond loss. Corby penned the song following the passing of a loved one.

“Recently someone very close to me passed away from pancreatic cancer and it was very tragic for everyone around me. The process of mourning has been long and tough during which you are involuntarily hit with an influx of questions about our mortality and the way we choose to experience this moment we call life. This song is paying homage to the journey one embarks on (hopefully there is one) after they pass away and wishes those on that journey safe passage to their next great adventure. I hope you can take the time to listen and enjoy or cry maybe… it’s up to you.” – Matt Corby.

Musically, the track captures Corby’s signature soulful vocal delivery, woven through whimsical piano and cinematic strings, before building to a stirring crescendo. Accompanying the release is a deeply personal visualiser filmed on Corby’s cherished Super8 camera, offering an inside look at his everyday life at Rainbow Valley with his family. The single artwork was illustrated by Sydney’s Mariam David and designed by Pat Fox.

Since breaking through with his 10× Platinum single ‘Brother’, Corby has cemented himself as one of Australia’s most celebrated voices. His last album Everything’s Fine became his third consecutive ARIA Top 10 release, also scoring Album of the Year nominations at both the J Awards and ARIA Awards.

Alongside today’s release, Corby has been announced as a special guest on Teddy Swims’ I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Australian tour, which kicks off next month. The run includes multiple sold-out arena dates in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth, as well as new shows just announced due to overwhelming demand.

With ‘Long and Short’, Matt Corby once again proves his ability to turn personal truth into a universal connection — a testament to why he remains one of the country’s most enduring and beloved artists.
