Mecha Mecha Unleash Haunting New Single ‘Mourning in The Evening’
Brisbane-based dark indie trio Mecha Mecha return with a powerful new release, unveiling the blistering single Mourning in The Evening alongside its raw and evocative B-side, The Worst Dream. This latest offering sees the band lean into their signature theatrical intensity, delivering a haunting and deeply emotional experience.
From the very first notes, Mourning in The Evening engulfs listeners in a brooding auditory landscape. Swelling piano chords, pulsing drums, and distorted static create a dense, atmospheric fog that sets the stage for Walter Anthony Webb’s striking vocals. His voice, both fragile and commanding, dances between soaring highs and deep, sorrowful lows, capturing the turbulence of heartbreak in a way that is both mesmerising and devastating.

“Esoterically, it’s just a comment on how life often seems to hit us with everything in one go, and we push on, the silver lining of rain clouds acting as a lighthouse that guides you through whatever storm it is you’re traversing. But lyrically, it’s just a sad song about the worst part of a break up.” – Walter Anthony Webb, Mecha Mecha.
As the track progresses, it shifts unexpectedly—what begins as a mournful lament soon explodes into a gritty, electrifying rock climax, before descending back into melancholic whispers. The lyrical depth adds another layer of intensity, painting a picture of grief, loss, and the relentless passage of time.
Complementing the release is The Worst Dream, a stripped-back and emotionally charged demo that lays bare the band’s vulnerability. Together, these two tracks showcase Mecha Mecha’s ability to weave raw emotion into intricate, genre-defying compositions.
To celebrate the release, Mecha Mecha will take the stage at The Cave Inn in Woolloongabba on February 20, joined by The Wish Fulfilled and Whitt’s End. Expect an evening of electrifying performances and powerful storytelling.
