Meshuggah Reminds Everyone Who’s Boss With New Track “Born In Dissonance”

Meshuggah edited

Meshuggah and heavy go hand-in-hand, so anyone seeking their daily dose of headbang fodder need not look any further than the forefathers of modern ‘djent’ latest offering Born In Dissonance.

The track kicks off with a heavily palm-muted breakdown and quickly introduces a grimy riff underneath vocalist Jens Kidman’s instantly recognisable roar. The song progresses through various rhythmic changes and alterations of pulse, all the while maintaining the sonic intensity fans of the band have grown to love.

Powerful lyrical statement “Baptised in the river you call time/we know that we are sacred/In human tongue/ we are apocalypse/for we bring with us obliteration” shows the band are not just all chugs and slams, they’re a band with a message.

Meshuggah often refers to the state of the world and the political climate in their music and upcoming album ‘The Violent Sleep of Reason’ is no different. “It’s about being asleep in the sense that you’re not reacting or responding to what’s going on in the world right now, and that has very violent implications,” says drummer and lyricist Tomas Haake.

Known for their intricately crafted rhythms, heavily down-tuned guitars, and Kidman’s raw throaty yells, ‘The Violent Sleep of Reason’ is expected to deliver on all-fronts.

Meshuggah, formed over 30 years ago, have well and truly earned their place as one of the leading forces in modern extreme metal. Meshuggah achieved widespread acclaim with albums ‘Catch Thirtythree’, ‘obZen’, and 2012’s ‘Koloss’, with 2008 single Bleed still dominating metal playlists to this day.

‘The Violent Sleep of Reason’ is set for release on Friday, 7th of October. In the meantime check out Born In Dissonance below!
