…and Then You Met Rowena Wise

Rowena Wise

Melbourne singer-songwriter Rowena Wise is about to jump on the road for some quick fire shows in support of her latest single Then We Met.

Combining a folk singer-songwriter sensibility with a contemporary pop indie-folk sound, the award-winning songstress has been on music lovers and industry watch lists since the release of her crowd-funded project album last year.

Then We Met was written shortly after Wise relocated to Melbourne from rural WA in 2012, touching on themes of the excitement and melancholy associated with being a stranger in a new town.

With its infectious upbeat tune and twisting-turning melody, there’s a reflective quality in the song that lends to its lyrical dynamism and capering pop-hooks.

“It’s about simplifying and celebrating the new, diving headfirst into the daunting unknown without hesitation,” says Wise.

Wise’s debut album is set to be a winner for many Australian folk lovers with her songs full of distinctive melodies, subtle dissonances, and pop hooks over warm, multilayered acoustic instrumentation.

There’s several guest appearances on the album include Liz Frencham on double bass, Maggie and Elsie Rigby (The Mae Trio) with stellar 3-part harmonies, Pepita Emmerichs (Oh Pep!) on mandolin, as well as many other skilled Melbourne folk who combine anything between accordion, strings, piano, and pedal steel to help in bringing the album’s songs to life.

Rowena Wise’s debut self-titled album is set for release in August. See below for her live dates!
