Metal Supergroup Gone Is Gone Release New Single + Announce Debut Album

American heavy hitters Gone Is Gone are ready to pick up where their self-titled EP left off with Sentient, the first single from their forthcoming debut album ‘Echolocation’. The group, comprised of Troy Sanders from Mastodon, Troy Van Leeuwen from Queens Of The Stone Age, and Tony Hajjar of At The Drive-in, and producer Mike Zarin, looks set to blow metal fans out of the water.

Sentient is everything that you would expect from a blend of Mastodon and Queens Of The Stone Age – it’s a slow, sludgy behemoth of a track which revels in itself. Spacey synths and quiet vocals build tension leading into crisp guitar tones and a nice fat bass line. The spacey, reverbed guitar lines are perfectly counterbalanced by the bass which grounds and progresses the track without being overtly aggressive or obvious.

The heavily distorted guitars create a wall of muddy, doomy sound which allows both the vocal lines and lead guitar to cut through the mix. The signature rasp of Troy Sanders kicks in around the halfway mark, adding some bite to the sprawling composition. Finishing off with an interesting lead guitar and vocal blend, the song leaves a strong impression.

Gone Is Gone evolved out of some collaborative soundtrack work recorded by Zarin and Hajjar, eventually growing into a fully-fledged project. The duo then brought in Sanders and Van Leeuwen to flesh out the lineup.

‘Echolocation’ is set for release on Friday the 6th of January. Check out the official Sentient music video below!
