Milky Chance Turn Guitars Into Gold With New Single “Cocoon”

milky-chance

German duo Milky Chance have been slaving away, and dropped their latest track Cocoon and the accompanying music, and we feel like they’ve gotten onto some good stuff.

The video is set in a bleak, dystopian work camp, where white-garbed workers are helplessly trying to alchemise rocks into gold to satisfy their apple-addicted overlord. Suddenly, work is interrupted when a girl is found who can seemingly transform any clothes she wears into gold, at the expense that she turns to rock from the inside out. Cue the exploitation.

The track has a lot of similar vibes to Milky Chance’s breakout hit Stolen Dance with the arrangement of acoustic guitar, funky rhythm section and killer layering. Between the verses and choruses, you’ll be treated to hand claps, clicking, looping electric guitar and other sounds that will fade in and out. This is all blended with vocalist Clemens Rehbein’s raspy voice to give it that signature Milky Chance vibe.

The video is a good looking and well produce, but slightly ham-fisted metaphor for many industries and the world at large, and you can’t help but think Milky Chance are having a light stab at record label execs who would have been looking for a follow up to their enormous breakthough.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with Milky Chance, I would like to extend the most sincere of congratulations, as you have been born and learnt to read complete sentences within two years, all without ever coming face-to-face with a radio.

The German duo are most well known for Stolen Dance, which came from left field to take out the #4 spot in the triple j Hottest 100 of 2014, and interestingly enough, is the most Shazamed song of all time. If you can honestly say you’ve never heard it, please call the Guiness World Records people, because there is something going on there.

There is not a lot of further news from the Milky Chance camp about upcoming albums, but with this infectious little pop track speeding through our heads, we’ll keep you updated!
