MONGEEYA Release Powerful Debut EP ‘Listen To This’ — A Raw Journey of Culture, Healing and Strength
Boorloo/Perth-based First Nations rock outfit MONGEEYA have released their debut EP, ‘Listen To This’, a bold and emotional statement of identity, resilience, and truth. Following their September single ‘Sea’, the EP captures frontman Zac James’ lived experiences as a proud Wonguktha and Yamaji man, blending protest-fuelled indie rock with moments of tender, dusty folk.
Produced by Dave Pensabene, ‘Listen To This’ is a deeply personal and culturally rich project that explores themes of self-empowerment, trauma, healing, and family. Across the EP’s tracks, MONGEEYA deliver both ferocity and vulnerability, channeling the raw energy of their live performances into a sonically rich and emotionally charged debut.

“‘Listen to This’ has been developing for the past few years, inspired by my experiences and lived history as a First Nations man. Proud of my Wonguktha and Yamaji culture, the DNA of my heritage and Tjukurpa (Dreaming).” – Zac James.
Among the standout tracks is ‘Try’, a heartfelt promise of love and support in the face of mental health struggles, and ‘Warpaint’, a visceral anthem that condemns racism and champions Indigenous sovereignty, featuring Zac’s use of the traditional Tjupan language.
‘Listen To This’ stands as a powerful reflection of MONGEEYA’s purpose, to tell stories rooted in culture, truth, and strength. The result is a record that doesn’t just demand to be heard, but felt.
Listen To This is available now, everywhere.
