Montaigne Dances (Almost) Naked in ‘In The Dark’ Clip
Sydney singer-songwriter Montaigne (aka Jessica Cerro) drops another theatrical, quirky music video for her newest single, In the Dark.
Off her forthcoming debut album, In the Dark is hooky, percussion-driven pop. Produced by Tony Buchen (The Preatures, Andy Bull) the song was inspired by a dying relationship – hence the images of Montaigne being buried in the clip.
“The song was conceived in the throes of a dying relationship, with the knife twisted deeper by other traumas, and I wanted to visually convey both the devastation and empowerment I felt from corrupting my relationship in the way I did,” says Montaigne.
Directed by Guy Franklin, the guy behind her previous videos (I’m a Fantastic Wreck and Clip My Wings), the clip opens with a nude Montaigne covered in strategically placed skeleton-like wax drippings. Like her previous videos, In the Dark is heavily focused on her body.
Montaigne is shown dancing like nobody is watching and in an almost robotic way in front of a black screen. Her movements perfectly match the songs glitchy, St Vincent-esque sound. The clip culminates with Montaigne projectile vomiting liquid gold and then being submerged into a grave of gold (because #art).
The former triple j Unearthed High finalist has achieved a lot since graduating high school. She’s recently come off a tour supporting Boy & Bear and is now preparing for her own national tour. Watch the clip below!
