Mr Chrisy Mertas Announce New Album So Far From Punk Celebrating Arnhem Land Punk Spirit
Arnhem Land punk outfit Mr Chrisy Mertas are back with their explosive new album So Far From Punk, a record that perfectly captures the raw, chaotic energy that has defined their rise since 2021.
Known for blistering live shows alongside King Stingray and the Andrew Gurruwiwi Band, the Northern Territory quartet have already built a fierce reputation. Following their debut album Cookers Paradise and a set at Bass In The Grass earlier this year, the band’s sophomore effort takes things to another level.

So Far From Punk is a celebration of Arnhem Land life, balancing sweaty punk chaos with deeper themes of self-loathing, neurodivergence and conflict avoidance. Frontman Matt McLean’s scrappy vocals cut through buzzing amps and unrelenting rhythms, giving voice to both vulnerability and defiance.
Highlights include lead single Here We Go Again—a reflection on disconnection from one’s own thoughts—crowd favourite Pots or Pints, a tongue-in-cheek anthem about schooner scarcity in the CBD, and Deadweight, which finds comfort in self-pity.
Recorded, produced and mixed by McLean himself, So Far From Punk cements Mr Chrisy Mertas as one of Australia’s most exciting emerging punk bands. Next up, the band will bring their wild live energy to East Arnhem Live Festival, joining Beddy Rays and Salt Lake Band.
So Far From Punk is available now, everywhere.
