Mr Little Jeans Releases Beautifully Synthy New EP ‘F E V E R S’

Solo electronic artist Mr Little Jeans, AKA Monica Birkenes, known for her breakout hit, a cover of Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs, has just dropped her second release, the ‘F E V E R S’ EP.

Hailing from Norway and living in Los Angeles creates a duality within her music giving it a unique feel and with her tracks appearing on the big screen, from Grey’s Anatomy to 50/50 to Iron Man 3, her music has made an impact in both indie and mainstream cinema.

The first track Fevers starts with an intense drum track backed only by a dark bassline and breathy lyrics. With the addition of textured and poppy synths towards the chorus her intensity within the song can be felt throughout the whole piece, yet with an ethereal and dreamy pop vibe to the entire track.

Next up is Stitches with a grizzly synth to start the song off and simple drums to accompany her lyrics into the chorus where a sparkling synth joins her pitch-perfect voice to create a poppy yet unnerving track. Produced by Tim Anderson, who has also been a producer for the likes of Halsey and Banks, this track has a shadowy undertone to it but with the wistful feel of the lyrics it’s hard to not want to get up and dance to this track.

Third song in is Fool 4 You which slows the pace down, but showcases just how talented Birkenes’ vocal ability can be. With an almost minimalist touch to the song, it feels raw and the vocals are purely enchanting. Fool 4 You still showcases vocal intensity giving the song all the depth it needs, despite its low-key nature.

Finally, closing off the EP is Waking Up, and if summer had a sound, this would be it in a nutshell. With her upbeat synths making another return alongside soft lyrics, the song is audibly relaxing and full of soul with a chorus you can hum or sing along to all summer.

‘F E V E R S’ is a real cracker of an EP full of unique sounds, beautiful vocals and pop-inspired synths, however if it had been longer it would have really established a proper sound or theme to the EP.
