Need your City Calm Down fix? The New Wave Rockers Have Announced A Spring Tour
After releasing their debut album ‘In a Restless House’ and taking the world by storm, Melbourne quartet City Calm Down have returned home and announced a string of headline shows.
The band recently played Brighton’s The Great Escape festival, Liverpool Sound City, and a sold-out headline show in London.
Their tour will see them head to Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Wollongong (sorry Darwin). They’ll be heading to the Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival, joining the likes of Matt Corby, Peking Duk, and Client Liaison.
Those who were lucky enough to nab a ticket to Splendour In The Grass you can also catch them on the Sunday night, before they embark on the national tour.
The self-proclaimed electronic group are known for their tight synthesiser hooks and upbeat rock that fans have come to love since their 2012 debut EP ‘Movements’.
Their hit single Rabbit Run shows how the Melbourne rockers utilise 80s dance grooves and vocal work reminiscent of The National. Drawing inspiration from Joy Division, Jack Bourke’s voice perfectly captures the melancholy feel of the lyrics that blend with the upbeat nature of the instrumental arrangement.
Their other single Your Fix continues to strengthen the band’s unique style with the track featuring bass work and synth lines that complement each other perfectly. The song has a feel similar to The Cure with simple drum beats and jangly guitar in tandem with Bourke’s higher vocal range that cuts through the mix.
City Calm Down will be joined by the amazing Ali Barter and Sydney up-and-comers Middle Kids.
Barter recently covered Tame Impala’s Cause I’m a Man for triple j’s Like A Version as well as wowing crowds along the east coast leg of St. Jerome’s Laneway festival earlier this year.
Middle Kids have seen their debut single Edge Of Town get love on triple j as well as Sydney’s FBi 94.5 crowning them their Independent artist of the week.
Tickets are on sale now so you better get in quick or there’s definitely gonna be a lot of restless houses…
