New Zealand Indie Band Borderline Signs with Global Music Powerhouse EMPIRE

Riding the momentum of a breakthrough 2024, rising New Zealand indie-pop outfit Borderline has officially signed with EMPIRE, marking a major career milestone. The signing sees the Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland)-based band join the ranks of the influential independent music company, which has played a key role in launching the careers of Anderson .Paak, XXXTentacion, and Shaboozey.

Borderline’s upward trajectory has been undeniable, with their 2024 single Heartbeat gaining traction across Australia and New Zealand, earning playlist placements on Spotify, Apple Music, and RAGE, while their online fan base continues to grow. Now, with EMPIRE behind them, the band is poised for even bigger opportunities—including their North American debut at SXSW 2025.

“We are super stoked to be joining the EMPIRE family including their incredible roster. We couldn’t be luckier to have such a dedicated team around us who are as passionate about music as we are. We’re so excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to see what’s to come!”  – Borderline.

Set to release their next single, When It’s Raining, on March 7, Borderline is wasting no time in capitalizing on this exciting new chapter. Their signing also marks a significant move for EMPIRE, as the label continues its expansion into the Australia/New Zealand market under the leadership of Cameron Walsh.

With their signature blend of melodic indie hooks and dynamic instrumentation, Borderline is ready to take their sound to a global audience—backed by a powerhouse team that believes in their potential.
