Nick Keogh Is Back With New Single, ‘Always Knew’

Indie-rock musician Nick Keogh is back with a bang after nearly two years, unveiling his heart-wrenching new single, Always Knew. Since making the move from a sheep farm in rural NSW to of Naarm/Melbourne, Keogh has cultivated a thriving community around his deeply reflective songwriting, tackling everything from male privilege to profound regret.

Freshly inspired by a trip to Japan, Keogh channels his emotions into Always Knew, a tender track penned during the end of a significant relationship. Despite its sombre theme, the song’s buoyant melody and infectious rhythm invite listeners to sway along. The chorus, consisting of just six words, is repeated with swelling trumpets and heavenly harmonies, making it a perfect earworm before the deeper meaning truly sinks in.

“I wrote ‘Always Knew’ reflecting on how I foresaw the heartbreak coming,” Nick shares. “Writing this song was a way to move past that pain.”

Produced by James Seymour at Melrose Place in Melbourne, the track draws whimsical inspiration from artists like Middle Kids and Ball Park Music, blending tender vocals with triumphant instrumentation. Keogh’s knack for hiding vulnerability beneath cheerful sounds makes his music irresistibly inviting.

Catch Nick Keogh and his live band launching Always Knew at Northcote Social Club on Monday, July 29, as part of the venue’s free weekly Social Sanctuary event, with support from Amalia & Keanu Jai. Don’t miss it!
