NZ/Adopted Aussies Crowded House To Join ARIA Hall Of Fame
Multi-award winning quartet Crowded House weren’t dreaming when ARIA announced they’ll be inducted into the Hall Of Fame at the end of this year. With 13 ARIA awards and five #1 albums, it comes as no surprise that Australia’s love of these legends isn’t over.
ARIA Chief Executive Officer Dan Rosen said it’s an honour for him to invite Crowded House to join the Hall Of Fame.
“Since the inaugural ARIA Awards in 1987, the Melbourne-formed band have been nominated for 36 ARIA Awards and have come the full circle since receiving the first ARIA Award ever presented for Best Video. What a thrill that our first ever ARIA Award winner will now be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame as part of our 30-year celebrations,” said Rosen.
Former Split Enz members Neil Finn and Paul Hester decided they weren’t done yet when the band decided to live up to the name and split, so Crowded House was born. They released their debut self-titled album in 1986, featuring ARIA Awarded Song Of The Year Don’t Dream It’s Over, with six more albums to follow suit.
Fast-forward 30 years and the band has toured all around the world, played to over 100,000 fans on the steps of the Sydney Opera House, and worked with charities such as Save the Children in 2015.
Their mellow acoustic rock brings together simplistic guitar riffs, soulful vocals, and amazing lyrics to touch your heart and often tell stories which hit close to home. Finn and fellow band member Nick Seymour are stoked to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame on November 23.
“Since our formation in Melbourne and our first album release in 1986 we have enjoyed a special relationship with Australia, one that has strengthened and endured over the years. We feel truly blessed that our songs have become a valued part of peoples lives across generations. As a result, our affinity with fans and the music community here is unique and one we hold very close. We are delighted and honoured to accept the invitation to be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame,” they said.
If you still don’t know who they are, you might recognise a recent cover of the classic Don’t Dream It’s Over performed by Miley Cyrus and Arianna Grande (see below). Yeah, they’re wearing onesies but it’s actually not bad…until they start weirdly flirting…you can’t blame Miley though as Grande is “the cutest ever mouse bear”.
