Papa Pilko And The Binrats Bring It Dark & Broody in “Bloodlines”

papa-pilko-2

Get ready for those dark tones, because Sydney Alt-rock/soul outfitt Papa Pilko and The Binrats have dropped their latest single Bloodlines, the accompanying music video, and announced even an extensive East Coast touring schedule to boot!

Bloodlines sounds like a walk through the shady side of town on a moonless night, with its broody texture. The track is packed full of lightly flanging guitars and walking bass lines that mix beautifully over the top of some subtle but intricate drumming. Add to that the strained and emotional sounds of vocalist Cyrus Pilko and the flaring brass in the back half of the track, and the result is a simmering dark single.

The music video that comes with the track just serves to back up this darkness. Filmed entirely in greyscale, like some of their previous works, the clip shows the evolution of the stereotypical suburban male and his relationships, all seamlessly intertwined with a barbecue between friends, and footage of the band jamming in a backyard. Mullets, beer cans and lungbusters all make an appearance in this visual representation!

If you hear the track and feel like these guys are going to be best experienced live, with brass blaring in your face in a spot where you can shake your body around, then fear not, because the 7-piece will be bringing their brand of music to a venue near you (if you live on the east coast). Their nine date string of shows will be hitting the cap cities, as well as a number of smaller spots, like Toowoomba, Ballarat, and Maitland, so you’ll not have to travel too far!
