Parkway Drive Release Hectic New Single “Devil’s Calling”
Byron Bay heavy giants Parkway Drive have released their latest single Devil’s Calling, lifted from the deluxe digital edition of the band’s 2015 album ‘IRE’ set for release on Friday 15th of July.
Parkway Drive have been mainstays in the Australian metalcore scene since their formation in 2003. Last year’s album ‘IRE’ gave the band hit singles Vice Grip and Crushed, and saw the album named ‘Best Metal Album of 2015’ on iTunes. Devil’s Calling remains true to the band’s roots, while also incorporating a new, anthem-like style to the heavy hitters’ choruses.
Vocalist Winston McCall says the song was written as a protest song, “the lyrics came as a response to the growing tensions we are seeing worldwide. In the last year we have seen people with flames of hatred, war, bigotry and fear used as a tool once again to divide and deflect our attention away from the corruption and malice that sits at the head of our power structures,” says McCall.
The song is one of two new songs to be released on the deluxe digital edition of ‘IRE’ this week, with a third remix track also featured. The third track is a remix of the closing track of ‘IRE’ A Deathless Song, featuring Tonight Alive’s frontwoman Jenna McDougall. McCall says he’s had a lot of respect for McDougall ever since Tonight Alive first appeared on the music scene.
“Not only does she have an amazing voice, but she uses her presence in the world in an incredibly inspiring and positive way. A Deathless Song was originally written as a duet, but with time constraints in the studio we never had a chance to fully explore it [fully], which is why we chose this path,” says McCall.
The release of Devil’s Calling comes after the recent completion of Parkway Drive’s ‘All Aussie Adventure’ national tour. While there are no current upcoming Aussie shows for the band, they’re about to head off on an extensive European tour, culminating in the band playing the legendary Reading and Leeds Festival.
