Pat Tierney Shares Top Comfort Song Playlist

Queensland artist Pat Tierney has revealed his newest single, a soothing and heartfelt folk track titled ‘One Day Soon’. The song arrives alongside the announcement of his brand new album Lost In The Haze, which is set for release on Friday October 11th. A bittersweet lament in which the narrator yearns to reunite with their loved one, ‘One Day Soon’ reads as something of a musical love letter, offering comfort and hope to the aforementioned loved one with the message that, despite this “lonely… empty road,”  they’ll be together again before too long. In the spirit of this, we had Pat put together a list of five of his favourite comfort songs which feel to him like a warm hug or helping hand, when times are tough.

  • ‘PLEASURE AND PAIN’ – BEN HARPER
This is the song that made me want to write my own songs on slide guitar and have a voice of my own. It’s folk, it’s gospel and it just strikes such a chord lyrically. I’ve never gotten sick of this song in 20 years.
  • ‘WAITING IN VAIN’ – BOB MARLEY
I love reggae music so much and this is one of the most beautiful songs ever put together. The production, feel, pocket is astounding. Bob was such an underrated songwriter in my opinion. This one always brings me comfort.
  • ‘SHELTER FROM THE STORM’ – BOB DYLAN
To me, Bob is hands down the greatest songwriter of all time. This song just paints such a beautiful picture and narrative. Like most of Bob’s songs, it can be interpreted in many different ways. I always just get lost in the imagery and poetry and often end up in tears, good tears. Like a warm hug from an old friend.
  • ‘DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER’ – OASIS
The ‘Morning Glory’ album was one of the first I ever bought as a 8 year old kid with my own pocket money, and this album is Nostalgia in a bottle. This particular song though is one of the greatest written songs of all time in my opinion. It just strikes all the right places and you can’t help but sing along.
  • ‘SONNET’ – THE VERVE
Oh Richard, what a songsmith and poet. I came to The Verve a little later in my musical journey but, wowee, I was floored the first time I heard the ‘Urban Hymns’ album. I originally thought it was a greatest hits album… It may well have been. This song is a go-to on long road trips or when I’m feeling a little blue.
