Plini Drops Progressive Sonic Journey With Debut Album & Announces Aussie Tour
Sydney-based instrumental mastermind Plini has dropped his debut album ‘Handmade Cities’, a collection of tracks that assault listeners with a prog-fueled and groove-laden aural phenomenon, akin to Animals as Leaders and Polyphia.
Recorded in collaboration with drum hero Troy Wright and bassist Simon Grove (The Helix Nebula), Plini says, “I imagine each of these pieces as soundtracks to different narratives and urban spaces. Some are real, some are imaginary, some are both… I find it exciting that, being instrumental music, where it takes the listener could be completely different to what I intended.”
Latest single Inhale demonstrates Plini’s musical prowess as the song traverses through a variety of sonic tonalities. A smoky, urban sounding introduction thick with thumping bass guitar and syncopated drum lines leads into an explosive riff featuring heavily distorted chord work and off-beat accentuations from Wright.
The song dips through a jazz-influenced bridge section, with a smooth lead guitar lick from Plini before finding its way back into riff-territory for the finale where the instruments come together in a storm of drum fills, guitar chugs, and gritty distorted basslines.
‘Handmade Cities’ follows three independently released EPs, two in 2013 and one in 2015, which amassed a cult-following across the globe. With earlier single Every Piece Matters, Plini raised over $7000 for RawImpact.Org, an Australian non-profit working in Cambodia to create sustainable livelihoods for families living in poverty.
With over 5 million hits on YouTube and string of sold-out shows in the US under his belt, Plini makes his return to Australia with a headline tour with special guest INTERVALS and fellow Sydney riffers Polaris.
