post-dusk Releases Shiny New “PDFC” Music Video

post-dusk

Don’t let the chilled sounds of multi-skilled Brisbanite post-dusk a.k.a. Ruby Smith fool you – she’s not one to slow down. Smith is currently preparing to release a video accompaniment for her debut single PDFC, a track she wrote, performed, produced, and mixed by herself while completing an honours thesis in psychology.

The opening lines drenched in dreamy synth and hazy vocals, listening to PDFC is like waking up slowly. The melody flows smoothly from the verses into the chorus, creating a feeling of security throughout, and although the anthemic texture seems at odds with the slow tempo at times, adapting to Smith’s individualistic style is a natural inclination. PDFC is easy listening for fans of Lana del Ray and Florence + the Machine, and for all those after something with a little less drive and a little more drift.

Set in a slightly creepy abandoned church, the PDFC music video is every bit as ethereal as the song. Intimate in its stillness and complex in its simplicity, the clip comprises shots of Smith standing inside the church and singing to the camera, the intensity of her gaze only amplified by the setting. As the beat picks up, glitter begins to fall from the ceiling, prompting an interpretive dance break. Dramatic, unusual, and captivating – if not for the glitter, this clip could almost have been lifted from The Phantom of the Opera.

PDFC is the first taste of post-dusk’s debut EP, set for release before the end of this year. Check out the music video below!
