PREMIERE: Byron Short & The Sunset Junkies Are Well and Truly “Back”
Charging in like a bull looking for the most pristine and high quality China shop, Byron Short & The Sunset Junkies are back with their high-energy lead single from their forthcoming studio album.
Describing themselves as a band of rock ‘n’ roll rebels, Byron Short and his league of edgy bluesmen have shown you’re never too long out of the rock game to return with fire in your belly and a rose tattoo on your chest.
Back is the lead single from their fifth studio album ‘Revelations’, the follow-up to their previous critically acclaimed and Golden Guitar nominated album.
The lead single is a bangin’ blues-rock tune full of suave guitar licks and great Aussie pub-rock clichés. The song on the most part is a simple rock track littered energetic crescendos and Short’s super catchy shouts of “Now I’m back”, echoed by backing vocals from his band.
But Short and his band, “like a hurricane”, pull an epic face-melting and headbanging bridge seemingly out of nowhere full of crashing percussion, cascading organ melodies, and controlled shredding that makes you grab for the nearest guitar.
“With this taste of ‘Revelations’ going down smooth with just enough bite, Short and his band are again set be the talk of the blues-rock scene.”
Hailed as Short’s “the dark jewel in his crooked crown”, ‘Revelations’ tells the story of the singer-songwriter’s life as a down and out rock ‘n’ roller, walking the line between damnation and salvation.
“[The album] is about a fairly dark time in my life…but ultimately it’s about casting out the darkness to find love, light, and redemption,” says Short.
An outpouring of confessional storytelling, ‘Revelations’ borrows from the apocalyptic, prophetic imagery in the biblical text of the same name to deliver a rock ‘n’ roll tour de force.
“I may be a non-believer, but the good book sure-as-hell helped me deal with my demons one dark night, and now I hope my songs can help other people build their own impenetrable fortresses of hope, healing, and dare I say…happiness,” says Short.
Since releasing his first album in 2006, Short has sold-out shows in Australia and America. With this taste of ‘Revelations’ going down smooth with just enough bite, Short and his band are again set be the talk of the blues-rock scene.
