PREMIERE: Kodiak Empire Release Fiery Video For Single “Sun”

kodiak empire

There aren’t a lot of prog-rock bands coming out of Brisbane right now, but the few have something special. Kodiak Empire are the cream of the crop amongst their cohort, and their upcoming second EP is sure to thrust the band into the national spotlight. The dynamic 5-piece have worked hard, creating music that’s interesting and unique, yet distinctly prog-rock in style.

After much anticipation, Sun, the first single from Kodiak Empire’s second EP ‘Silent Bodies’ is finally here, and it’s definitely something all you prog-lovers should wrap your ears around! The accompanying music video for the song is an intense, fire-filled piece that works well with the passion and emotion of the track.

Forming in 2012, the Brisbane band have spent their time together refining their sound and solidifying their lineup. In 2014, drummer Josh Engel moved from drums to keys, and current drummer Benjamin Shannon joined the band, cementing the current line up.

The music video for Sun is a fiery demonstration of the band’s sound, with enough pyrotechnics to make any pyromaniac happy! Band members are silhouetted against the fire, blocking out their features so only shadows are shown, creating a depersonalisation of each member and shifting the focus onto the heat in the video.

The only light source present within the music video is the fire, which is shown burning various objects and shapes. This simplistic use of lighting creates a very natural backdrop for the song, allowing the music itself to shine through, and draw the watcher in.

Sun is produced crisply, with Bryce Carleton’s vocals cutting through strong and clear with a distinct Aussie twang, adding a unique element to their sound. The instrumentation is clever, stripped back, yet capable of holding the song up and propelling it along.

Kodiak Empire’s second EP ‘Silent Bodies’ is set for release on Friday, 5th of August. Check out the new music video and tour dates below!
