Premiere: Lazy Guns Unveil Debut Album, ‘Waste My Breath’

Lazy Guns burst onto the scene with their debut album, ‘Waste My Breath’, a fiery collection of 12 tracks drenched in fresh alternative rock energy. Channelling the spirit of late 90s and early 00s rock, the album exudes a gritty charm from start to finish, with each song serving as an anthem. Today we’re super stoked to share with you the very first listen of the high energy album.

Kicking off the sonic journey is the electrifying opener, ‘Better Now’, setting the stage for an exhilarating summer rock ride. Throughout the album, Lazy Guns showcase their knack for gritty song writing, delivering infectious melodies and a raw, unapologetic attitude that resonates with listeners.

From infectious hooks to punchy rhythms, ‘Waste My Breath’ captivates with its dynamic range and unabashed rock ethos. The album’s title track serves as a fitting closer, leaving listeners craving more of Lazy Guns’ infectious sound.

“It’s interesting to reminisce on this ‘new’ album of ours because most of the tracks were written about five years ago when I was seventeen. Looking back at these songs, I’m instantly reminded of my teenage years rehearsing in a shed with my family and playing our favourite rock songs. It wasn’t like we were practising for a big gig or trying to write the next Triple J feature track, we were just playing rock music because it was fun. It was a lot more innocent back then and because of that, this album has a very teenage feel to it. Songs like ‘Runaway’ and ‘Waste My Breath’ were literally the first songs we’d ever written and so they carried over that immature and reckless nature that we all experience as teenagers. I think the first song we really tried hard with was ‘In My Shadow’ and that’s reflected in its darker, fiercer, more mature feel that came about years later.

During the album writing process, we always came back to four influential records from our childhood and pulled certain traits from those bands to use in our own music. AC/DC’s High Voltage for guitar tones, Powderfinger’s Vulture Street for lyrics and vocal performance, JET’s Get Born for songwriting and mix referencing, and Foo Fighters’ Wasting Light for raw rock complexion. Those four albums were essentially our musical scaffolding upon which we built our sound and discovered our own characteristics within the style of rock.” – Jack, Lazy Guns.

To celebrate the album’s release, Lazy Guns will be hitting the stage for two not-to-be-missed shows alongside The Dandys and Monstera in Brisbane and on the Sunshine Coast in May and June, promising fans an electrifying live experience to complement the album’s infectious energy.

With ‘Waste My Breath’, Lazy Guns prove themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the alternative rock scene, leaving an indelible mark with their debut offering.
