PREMIERE: The Mono LPs Reveal Playful Side With “L.O.V.E. & H.A.T.E.” Video
Since building up a steady resume with support performances for The Maccabees (R.I.P!) and British Sea Power alt-rock quartet The Mono LPs have developed a signature sound, and it’s all on display in their single L.O.V.E. & H.A.T.E! The track makes a poignant statement about the nature of love and hate, feelings shared just as easily between a couple in love as a country at war.
L.O.V.E. & H.A.T.E sees The Mono LPs showcase all the raw rock flavour of The Black Keys through their own mottled lens, a subtle decoration for the tight lyrics: “That’s what she said, in the morning/If it feels right, there’s no warning/If she means it, you’re in trouble/Take a deep breath, make it double”. Driving guitar is the lifeblood of the piece, supporting the band’s energetic vocals and harmonies and working in harmony with the drums to pull everything together.
Set inside what looks like an overly-artistic high school, the L.O.V.E. & H.A.T.E music video is comprised of one casual performance shot after another, conveying the band’s endearing low-key style. It’s like a less sarcastic version of Ball Park Music’s Nihilist Party Anthem clip, and thanks to artistic visuals and constant motion it never struggles to maintain interest.
“It took ages to film as we had to keep getting changed into our good and bad clothes and spent most of our time in different stages of our underwear. Vicky has kept the wig too so you never know when gothy Vicky might make an appearance!” said the band.
L.O.V.E. & H.A.T.E. is the first single released from The Mono LPs’ debut album ‘State of Decay’. Check out the music video below and keep an eye out for tour dates once the album is released!
