Premiere: Rance Lazarus Reveals Dreamy New Jam, ‘Butterflies’

Melbourne singer-songwriter Rance Lazarus has unveiled his brand new single Butterflies,  which we’re stoked to be premiering exclusively ahead of its official release tomorrow. The track, which fuses elements of pop, indie rock, and country, captures the exhilarating emotions of falling in love, only to explore the bittersweet end of a relationship.

Lazarus shares a compelling narrative in Butterflies, reflecting the early stages of romance, where excitement and nervous energy fill every moment. The song chronicles the joy of connection and the hope that the newfound love could last, symbolized by the “butterflies” in your stomach. However, as the track progresses, the relationship falters, and those feelings fade. Despite the heartbreak, Butterflies closes with an optimistic outlook, holding onto the belief that love will return in a lasting form.

“Butterflies” is a song I wrote about someone who, after nearly giving up on love, finally meets someone who seems like they might be the perfect match. It captures the excitement of the early stages of dating, where everything feels new and full of potential—the shared moments, the anticipation, and the hope that this person might truly be ‘the one.’ The butterflies you feel at the beginning, those moments of nervous excitement, symbolize the optimism of love. But in this story, those butterflies eventually fly away, and the relationship falls apart, leading the couple to go their separate ways. Even though things don’t work out, the song ends with a sense of optimism, promising that those butterflies will return again one day—and when they do, they’ll stay for good.” – Rance Lazarus.

Known for blending heartfelt lyrics with soulful melodies, Lazarus has been compared to artists like John Mayer, The 1975, and Ed Sheeran. Earlier this year, he released I Fell For You (Again), which premiered at the St Kilda Film Festival alongside tracks from Australian legends Midnight Oil and Split Enz.

With its dreamy pop tones and relatable storytelling, Butterflies promises to resonate with fans of Lazarus and newcomers alike.
