Safe Hands Break The Mould In Music Video For “The Great Affair”
Newcastle mainstays Safe Hands have revealed their latest offering The Great Affair, lifted from their upcoming sophomore album ‘Tie Your Soul To Mine’ due out in September.
Simultaneously shedding the ‘hardcore’ label they’ve always carried on their shoulders and showcasing new aural and emotional depth not seen by the lads before, The Great Affair is a testament to the 10-year journey the band has undergone as an independent act.
The song opens with a roomy drum beat layered with lightly distorted guitars, a sombre opening for the track this is to follow. Vocalist and frontman Benjamin Louttit trades in the harsh screams they’ve been known for in the past for pensive, emotional clean vocals that demand the listener’s attention. The song rises and falls with intensity with Louttit’s screamed vocals introduced as a layer underneath soaring cleans. The bridge of the song is then awash with driving guitars, crashing drum beats, and screeching lead licks.
In a lengthy post via the band’s Facebook page, Safe Hands announced their decision to consciously move away from their reputation as a violent hardcore act.
“The older we grew the more we realised that this behaviour was extremely ignorant and resulted in serious damage to venues and social reputation alike. The blame can’t entirely be easily laid at the altar of being young and stupid, it was simply the result of feeling the need to play to genre stereotypes.”
Safe Hands have spent time slowly building up a following, both at home and abroad, with an appearance at the Coffs Harbour leg of Warped Tour 2013, a tour of South-East Asia, and support slots alongside international acts Norma Jean, Converge, La Dispute, and Rolo Tomassi.
‘Tie Your Soul to Mine’ is set for release on Friday, 23rd of September. In the meantime check out the music video for The Great Affair and upcoming Safe Hands live dates below!
